Past Toys, Puppets and Games

This session illustrates Shugborough's vast collection of historic toys, puppets and games of the nineteenth and early twentieth century.  This demonstration gives a fascinating insight into the toys and games of the past, enabling the handling of historic artefacts.  

Links with History Unit 1: Toys in the Past, History Unit 11: Children in Victorian Britain, DT Unit 1A: Moving Pictures, DT Unit 2B: Puppets, and DT Unit 5C: Moving Toys.

Children will become servants in the Mansion House, polishing candlesticks, laying fires and even emptying chamberpots!

Butler's Pantry

Housemaids help the children set the table for a dinner party using name cards, cutlery and the intracately folded napkins before revealing the necessity of Victorian table manners.
