Dorothy Nicklin - Farm Dairy and Kitchenmaid

My name is Dorothy Nicklin, I work at the farm both as a dairymaid and a kitchenmaid, as I am needed.

When I was younger I did the dairywork all the time. Then I married my husband Thomas who also works here at the farm as a labourer, and in the last five years he has been joined by our son James. The work in the dairy is very hard now that I am getting older, but the pay is a little better than the kitchen work – £12 per year rather than £10.

I’m happy here at the farm, and I’m lucky that Tom and James are here also.
